The Otto Placht – Fleeting Eternity of the Amazon exhibition is a comprehensive, long-awaited showcase of one of the most original personalities of the Czech art scene over the last thirty years.
For the first time, a complete selection of large-format works inspired by the artist’s life in the Peruvian Amazon will be presented in the unique premises of the Municipal House in Prague — in direct contact with the boundless power of nature and the forces of the jungle. Otto Placht’s painting captivates visitors with its highly decorative accent, reflecting his knowledge of mythology and the spiritual symbols of the indigenous Shipibo culture.
Since the 1990s, Otto Placht has captured the spirit of the Amazon jungle in his paintings. Poetic shots of nature alternate with the harsh reality of the big city. The film Jungle Placht presents his creative process in Prague interiors and in a studio built directly in the rainforest. The documentary also offers a glimpse into the private life of the artist. The film portrait of Otto Placht will be available to watch online on KVIFF.TV from February 18, 2025.
The fascinating presence of the Amazonian spirit especially resonates in the large-scale works that Placht painted using hand-made colors from tree bark and various plants. The works exhibited in the Municipal House offer not only aesthetic impressions but also spark interest through their symbolism and the question they pose about humanity’s ability to balance its material and spiritual needs in harmony with nature.

Children under 10 and assistants for severely disabled visitors (ZTP/P) are admitted free of charge.
Tickets can only be purchased at the historical box office of the Municipal House, which is open daily from 10:00 to 19:00.
School groups
Regular admission for school groups (more than 10 students) is 90 CZK per student. One accompanying teacher per group is admitted free of charge.
