Wolfgang Beltracchi presents his current body of work in Prague. The exhibition features more than 80 original paintings and sculptures created between 2010 and 2026, through which the artist explores biblical and timeless themes of temptation, truth, punishment, and redemption. Through his distinctive visual language, Beltracchi draws striking and clearly perceptible parallels with the present day. The latest canvases from the Divine Stories cycle attest to his profound knowledge of Europe’s great pictorial tradition and to his exceptional professional mastery. Yet the artist remains a deeply polarising figure, admired by some and condemned by others. This is due in no small part to the fact that his forgeries once succeeded in unsettling even the most eminent experts in fine art. His works have been exhibited in prestigious international museums and collections. Beltracchi has already secured his place on the international art scene through his work. The exhibition Divine Stories, however, invites a renewed perspective on his current practice beyond the framework of his past and situates it within the context of contemporary art. Beltracchi consciously engages with the legacy of the Old Masters, which he has studied over many years. Here, he presents original interpretations in which historical references are interwoven with the present. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity not only to encounter Beltracchi’s work, but also to appreciate its relevance to our time.
