The famous tenor Jonas Kaufmann is one of the most sought-after stars of the operatic and concert scene today. He has over 70 roles in his repertoire, which he performed in the world’s leading opera houses, such as Milan’s La Scala, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden and, of course, his home Bavarian State Opera.

He won many prestigious awards for his opera and lieder recordings, including Diapason d’or and ECHO/OPUS Klassik. He likes to discover new projects and activities. As of September 2024, he will become the Artistic Director of the Erl Festival in Austria while still maintaining his career of an exceptional performing artist.

Jonas Kaufmann records exclusively for the Sony Classical label; since 2013, he has released a total of 26 successful albums. The latest, which is yet to appear on the market, was created in cooperation with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra under the baton of renowned German conductor Jochen Rieder who has been working with Jonas Kaufmann for the past 15 years on all his concert projects, including the album The Sound of Movies.

As a passionate fan of motion pictures, as well as a singer, Jonas Kaufmann is naturally particularly receptive to all the wonderful songs from famous films that have traveled the world as soundtracks. For his new project The Sound of Movies, he chose hits from more than eighty years of film history; from Ralph Erwin’s "Ich küsse ihre Hand, Madame" from 1929 to Hans Zimmer’s "Nelle tue mani" from the 2000 film Gladiator.

A fascinating journey through all stages of film music offers evergreens such as "Moon River" by Henry Mancini and Johny Mercer (Breakfast at Tiffany’s), "Edelweiss" by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II (The Sound of Music), "Singin’ in the Rain" by Ignacio Herbert Brown and Arthur Freed and "Strangers in the Night" by Bert Kaempfert, Charles Singleton and Eddie Snyder. Furthermore, music by Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone and the most famous melodies from movies with Mario Lanza.

Jonas Kaufmann will be accompanied by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, which has a great deal of experience in this genre. Along with the "king of tenors", it will give each piece a special touch, a special listening pleasure – with the softest nostalgic tone, aromatic lightness and a strong vocal expression.

We are honored that on his concert tour, Jonas Kaufmann will introduce his new album in Prague.
